About The Nkangala TVET College

Nkangala Further Education and Training College was formed in 2003 with the merger of Witbank, Middelburg, Mpondozankomo, and CN Mahlangu campuses (formerly Technical Colleges) in Nkangala region. Waterval boven Campus was transferred in 2011 from Ehlanzen FET College. The college was formed after the adoption of FET Act of 1996 by Parliament.



The College is the largest educational institution in the Mpumalanga Province, serving the community in the Nkangala region. CN Mahlangu and Waterval Boven are the predominately rural.

The majority of the learners are drawn primarily from the urban areas of Witbank and Middelburg that are the most densely populated areas in the entire region. The remainder of the students comes from the rural areas of former Kwa-Ndebele and Waterval boven. In 2007, 719 students were enrolled in NC(V) programmes and 11,917 students in Nated 191 courses. More than 95% of our students come from the previously disadvantaged groups.

The College offers eight NC(V) programmes namely Civil Engineering and Building Construction, Electrical Infrastructure Construction, Engineering and Related Design, Finance, Economics and Accounting, Hospitality, Tourism, Information Techmology and Computer Sciences and Office Administration. Nated (191) programmes are still presented, and in all we have exactly seven courses. All programmes curriculum is developed and recognised by the Department of Higher education and Training.

The focus of the Extended Learning Unit (ELU) is on occupational training presenting accredited programmes and learnerships. The delivery of learnerships commenced very well with 2947 learners participating in learnerships that had a contract value of R 6,232,500.00.



The initial college staff compliment in 2003 was 247 educators and 108 support staff. 66,5% of all the employees are African, 32,9% are white and only 0,6% are Indian.
